Understanding Islam and Muslim Culture and Mosque Visit
Focussing on Mental Health
An Accredited Cultural Competence Training
For Mental Health Workers and those working with Muslim communities
The course is delivered by Kaushar Tai, Management and Training Consultant, Aksaa
Learning Outcomes:
• A better understanding of the basic beliefs & practices & the meaning of Sharia Law?
• The difference between Islam, Culture, and Tradition.
• Mosque Visit and presentation on the features and activities of a Mosque.
• Observation of the afternoon prayer – live!
• Community & Cultural understanding and attitudes towards Mental Illness.
• What support do people experiencing mental health get from their families and friends?
• How the Quran can be used as a guide to those suffering from emotional distress and turmoil.
• The belief in ‘jinn’ (spiritual beings), spirit possession, and black magic, and whether such beliefs can have harmful consequences for the mental health of Muslims.
Who is it for?
• Open to everyone who wishes to learn more about Islam & Muslim culture.
• Mental Health Workers who work with Muslim Communities.
